CREOULA
The "Santa Maria Manuela" was built in the AGPL - General Administration of the Port of Lisbon, then owned by CUF-Companhia União Fabril, in Lisbon, by order of the General Partnership of Pescarias Lda.
In a record time at the time of 67 working days, it was launched to the Tagus on May 10, 1937, having made its first fishing campaign that same year.
In 1939, in the Netherlands, a third similar unit was built, the project of which was introduced modifications resulting from the experience obtained with the CREOULA operation in 1937 and 1938, the "Argus"
The current space between the front deck area (covered in squares) and the engine room was originally the basement of the fish, in whose double bottoms the watering of the ship was made. The ship was thus divided into three large sections separated by two watertight bulkheads that bounded the basement of the fish forward and back. In front of the basement were the lodges of the fishermen, the storehouse of supplies, and the cold rooms for the bait; aft were the officers' quarters, the engine room, the fuel tanks, the cloth loom and fishing gear. The vessel also had in the front and rear slats several pikes used as water reservoir, storage of liver oil, stone charcoal for the stove and lubricating oils.

The whole interior of the ship was lined with good quality wood, and the basement caulked to avoid contact of the brine with the iron.
